Glued in on reverse of title page are two hand written receipts from the community. One is signed by Talon on Oct. 1, 1794 and the other is signed by Dupetit Thouars 11 Aug. 1794. Omer Talon one of the founders of the site for French royalist refugees. M. du Petit Thouars was from the French Navy, where he lost one hand, and became "the Admiral" of the site on the Susquehanna River down stream from Towanda, PA. An account of both lives are well documented in the book. Dushore, PA is named for Dupetit Thouars. He later returned to the French Navy and is given credit for the quote "I have given one hand to France, but here is another for her service." #244 of 250 copies. Not trimmed.
