Notes
Sadly Capt. Gorman was killed in the Civil War. These letters must have been returned to his family. About 20 letters from his family and families of soldiers in his unit. Another 3 are from officers in the 109th. Including two are from William A. King, Quartermaster-Sargent. There is also a letter to Mr. George Cowen from Enfield Center on decorated letterhead and envelope issued by Andrus, McChain & Co. Flag Envelope, Ithaca, NY. There is another political letter from a George W. Fry written from Owego [but in a NYS Senate envelope?]. Fry brings Gorman up to date on the elections in the area. There is also an unidentified carte-de-viste photograph of an individual in plain clothes issued in Owego, NY by Coburn & Co. on Lake Street with a revenue stamp on the back. circa 1862.
